According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool legend John Barnes was declared bankrupt by the court on September 23 due to his media company's debt of £1.5 million. Previously, he had been banned from serving as a director of the company for three and a half years and had received six bankruptcy filings since 2010.

It is reported that its debt includes £776,878 due to the General Administration of Taxation and Customs, £461,849 due to unsecured creditors and a £226,000 loan for directors. The survey shows that its company's turnover reached £441,798 between 2018 and 2020, but did not pay any taxes.

Barnes previously revealed in a podcast that he lost £1 million to £1.5 million for trusting others. He claimed that he had repaid about £2.2 million since 2017 and still paid £10,000 a month, stressing that he had no assets anymore.
