According to the British media "The Sun", former Liverpool forward Diouf is facing imprisonment for failing to pay child support. His ex-wife accused him of arrears of £14,000 in child support payments.

Diouf, 44, failed to attend a court hearing in the Senegalese capital Dakar on Tuesday. Since divorcing Valerie Bishop in 2023, Diouf has been required to pay monthly support of 670 pounds to their 17-year-old daughter Keira, as well as tuition and medical expenses.

However, Valerie claimed that Diouf has not paid the fee since March last year and currently owes about 14,000 pounds. Under Senegal's strict legal provisions, refusal to pay child support is punishable by imprisonment under Article 351 of the country's penal code.

Valerie's lawyer Mame Adama Gueye said: "Diouf is fully capable of paying. He has the ability to pay, but refuses to pay. He lives comfortably, living in Dakar and Salipotoudar."

Diouf will return to the Dakar High Court on December 5 to appear.

Liverpool signed Diouf from Lens for 10 million pounds after the 2002 World Cup. But in three seasons, he only scored six goals in 80 games and won the League Cup in 2003.

In 2005, he moved to Bolton Wanderers and subsequently played for Sunderland, Blackburn, Rangers, Doncaster and Leeds United, eventually ending his career in Malaysia. During his time in the Premier League, he was involved in several spitting incidents.
