Taiwan Electric held a legal conference today to expose its overseas expansion layout progress. The second factory in Arizona, the United States will produce several quarters in advance, and increase the proportion of advanced US processes to 30%; the progress of the Japanese and German factories needs to be adjusted according to local market demand and basic facility conditions.
Chairman Wei Zhejia pointed out that Taiwan Power will build six advanced wafer manufacturing factories, two advanced packaging factories, and a research and development center in Arizona, the United States, with a total investment of up to US$165 billion, making it one of the world's largest wafer manufacturing settlements.
The first wafer factory has produced a 4-nanometer process in the fourth quarter of 2024, and the yield is comparable to that of Taiwan factories. In order to accelerate the construction process with the demand of major US customers, the second factory in Arizona will produce several quarters in advance. The third seat has entered the process of 2nm and A16, and has been started; the fourth seat is also scheduled to adopt the process of 2nm and A16, and the fifth and sixth seats are reserved for more advanced processes, and the construction progress is adjusted according to requirements.
After the completion of the United States, NTION estimated that about 30% of 2 nanometers and more advanced process capacity will be located in the Arizona factory, an important part of the supply chain for independent AI chips.
Taiwan Power also updated its expansion progress in Japan and Europe simultaneously. Kumamoto I Factory was mass-produced by the end of 2024 and had a good yield performance; but it did not explain the completion time of the second factory, and only pointed out that it will start construction in the second half of the year.
In Europe, the German Delesden Plan has also continued to be promoted, and has been supported by the European Commission and German multi-level governments. The capacity and technical deployment will be adjusted according to market needs.
Finally, Taiwan is still the core base of Taiwan's electricity. It is estimated that the government will build 11 wafer factories and four advanced packaging factories in Taiwan with the support of the government within several years, and a 2-nanometer layout will be launched in Hsinchu and Kaohsiung, which will meet the strong structural growth needs.
Taiwan Power has strengthened its global layout and continued to add code to Taiwan, strengthening its position as a key supplier in the global IC industry, and creating long-term and stable profit growth for shareholders.
