Semiconductor packaging testing factory Sunmoonlight Investment Control said today that the board of directors of its subsidiary Sunmoonlight Semiconductor decided to demolish and rebuild the original plastic Meibei Technology factory, and the new construction project of K18B factory is responsible for the future expansion of advanced packaging and capacity requirements.
Dong Hongsi, director of Sun Moonlight Investment Control, re-information briefing in the afternoon pointed out that the group cooperated with Kaohsiung's future growth and purchased 100% of the shares of Sumeibe Technology in the first half of the year to handle the easy merger and obtain land for factory buildings. Today, it is decided to demolish and rebuild the related factories.
Dong Hongsi said that the Sun and Moonlight semiconductor is expected to build two underground layers and eight above ground layers, with a floor area of about 18,341.93 square meters. With the Sun and Moonlight semiconductor procurement operation regulations, there are only four factories that are willing to provide construction energy. According to the evaluation of the indicators such as professional ability, construction experience, construction schedule planning, construction quality and project coordination, the new construction project of K18B factory was issued to Fuhua Company. The two parties agreed that the untaxed transaction amount was NT$4.008 billion.

In October 2024, the new K28 factory of Sun and Moonlight Semiconductor was built. The K28 factory is expected to be completed in 2026, mainly to expand the advanced packaging and testing capacity of CoWoS; in August 2024, Sun and Moonlight Semiconductor purchased its K18 factory in Nanzi, Kaohsiung, and laid out the production line for crystal round convex packaging and overcrystal packaging process.

Industry insiders analyzed that it is necessary to expand the advanced packaging capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
